I. Land Resources
According to the data of the second national land resource survey, the total land area of Fujian is 12,393,400 hectares, among them there are 10,955,500 hectares of agricultural land, 729,200 hectares of construction land and 708,700 hectares of unused land.
II. Marine Resources
(1) Living marine resources. Fujian has a sea area of 136,000 square kilometers, 12.4% larger than the land area. The area of marine fishing grounds within 200 meters of water depth is 125,100 square kilometers, constituting 4.5% of the total area of marine fishing grounds in China. The area of the shallows is 2,068 square kilometers. There are fishing grounds in eastern Fujian, central Fujian, southern Fujian, outside eastern Fujian and Taiwan shallow. There are more than 2,000 kinds of marine organisms, including more than 200 kinds of economic fish, with the number of shellfish, algae, fish and shrimp species ranking first in China.
Coastal harbour resources. Fujian's continental coastline is 3,752 km long, ranking second in the country. The tortuosity of the coastline is 1:7.01, ranking first in the country. The coastline is dotted with islands, with 1,321 islands larger than 500 square meters (including 98 residential islands), ranking second in the country, and constituting 1/5 of the country. There are 125 large and small bays along the coastline, including 22 deep-water bays in which natural good harbors with deep-water berths above 50,000 tons, such as Dongshan Bay, Xiamen Bay, Meizhou Bay, Xinghua Bay, Luoyuan Bay, Sansha Bay and Shacheng harbor, with great potential for port development.
(2) Coastal mineral resources. Fujian has a complex geological structure along its coastlines. Over 60 mineral resources have been discovered there, of which 21 are of industrial value, with over 300 are mineral product places. The proven reserves of sand, granite and pyrophyllite are among the richest in the country. Quartz sand for decorative granite, kaolin, alunite and arenaceous quartz for glass occupy an important place in the country. The salt industry is rich in natural resources with good production conditions. The total area of the salt field is 110,200 hectares, of which more than 26,700 hectares are shallows suitable for salt. Salt chemical products that can be used on a large scale are magnesium chloride, B medium, gypsum, sodium magnesium salt, iodized salt, etc. Petroleum and natural gas in the Taiwan Strait have also shown good resource potential. The prospects for oil and gas in the three sunken petroleum generation places in the western part of the Strait are promising. It is expected to build oil and gas fields in sunken places such as Xiapeng and Wuqiuyu and uplift place Pengbei, and to survey a total of 290 million tons of oil and gas.
(3) Coastal tourism resources. Fujian boasts many mountains and vast seas with a perfect blend. With favorable subtropical marine climate, multifarious coastal types, beautiful islands and marine erosion landscapes in varied forms, together with numerous religious, cultural, military and historical sites and emerging port cities along the coast, it is thus an ideal tourist resort, including some listed national key scenic spots, that is, Gulang Island, Qingyuan Mountain, Taimu Mountain, Haitan Island, Meizhou Island of national tourism resort and Dongshan Island of "oasis at sea".
(4) Marine energy resources. Fujian has a large coastal geothermal gradient with rich geothermal resources, and there are many geothermal distribution areas with mining value. Coastal wind energy resources are abundant with the available hours as 7,000–8,000 hours. Coastal tidal power generation covers an area of 3,000 square kilometers, the theoretical installed capacity of tidal energy reaches 34,250,000 kilowatts, and the exploitable installed capacity is 10,330,000 kilowatts, constituting 49.2% of and ranking first in the country.
